I wish I could be better about not overthinking all the details. But I’m a mom, and that means that I’m wired to worry, sometimes even when I’ve been given plenty of reasons not to.
This means that while I wish not sweating the small stuff was something I knocked out of the park all the time, it’s something I can’t always achieve.
As a mom and wife, I like to think through all possible scenarios before an event happens. Having a plan A, B, C, and D gives me peace of mind and confidence that we can adapt and overcome if necessary.
Because you know how it is… Murphy’s law. Even when you do plan ahead and try to address every little detail, there’s something you might have missed. Or your hotel reservation gets lost in the system for your family vacation. Your youngest accidentally leaves their beloved stuffed animal behind at a gas station. Or the day you had carved out to get so much work done gets derailed by someone getting sick.
Going with the flow is something we can all aspire to, but this is made easier by knowing that we’ve done everything we can to handle possible worst-case scenarios. Sometimes as a mom, I know I can go overboard with thinking about how to make things easier for everyone, but this is worth it if an issue, accident, sickness, or other event comes up.
It’s what makes me stay diligent in thinking about having my estate planning documents in place. Because that’s one less thing in the category of “small stuff” to sweat about. I can’t predict everything, but I can try to take steps to make difficult situations easier.
